The best thing to do on January 3rd?
Convince your husband and child that what they need is a big, fat, feck off holiday in Florida. With a 52" colour TV, a jacuzzi next to the bed and Spiderman and Shrek 3D rides just a stones throw away. They didn't need much convincing.
I'm going to shat my pants with fear/excitment. I might start taking valium now in preparation for the flight.
Let's do it!

On International Drive: Tony Roma's - kind of TGI stylee, but much nicer. The Chicken Tenders and ribs platter is delicious! There is a franchise operation in Kingston, but it's no way near as good. We went 3 times in the space of a week!
There's also a really good Mexican restaurant called Amigos: http://www.amigostex-mex.com/ just near Sandlake Road, near the Wyndham resort.
The Pirates Cove miniature golf is worth a visit too.
Then, on Sandlake Road itself is The Melting Pot - a brilliant Fondue restaurant http://www.meltingpot.com/
We're hunting one down in Boston when we're there in the Summer...
Avoid Crazy Jack's like the plague - food was terrible and very over priced!
The Ponderosa is good for incredibly cheap breakfasts. There's also another diner near Tony Romas that is good for proper USA style breakfasts, as well as Perkins Restaurant and Bakery, again on W Sandlake Road near the intersection.
As soon as I say the words "chicken tenders" to Matt and El, they will be in there like a shot!
Thanks, RG.
They do nice cocktails too. And the great thing is you can check out what to eat before you go on their website! NB we never made it to dessert, as the portions are uber-generous.
We're gutted they don't have one in New England!
What's Epcot?? See how much I know about Florida!
We're looking at a James Villa apartment in the Mystic Dunes complex near Kissimmee if anyone knows anything about that.....
Epcot (one of the theme parks at Disney - Magic Kingdom is the main one but there's about 5 in total now, all massive) is grrrrreat! Your son will love it. Animal Kingdom is a bit sucky, though...
I've been to Fla 3 times & prefer to stay at International Drive in Orlando cos it's so close to almost everything, you can walk everywhere or get taxis so easily etc etc. I went one January and it was such a mood lift!
But I've never been to Kissimmee & have heard (I think..) that it's very nice & a bit more chilled.
Daytona Beach is not worth bothering with, I do know that!
Ooh, I'm jealous, a jacuzzi next to the bed ;)
I loved Seaworld - lots of cool animals! Magic Kingdom is just that - magical! I loved the life sized Swiss Family Robinson tree house!
Epcot is good too - the English bit is brilliantly cliched!
Universal studios and MGM are well worth a visit too - we got a ticket that basically let us into every single park, we did one each day in a week. If you get out as far as Tampa, Busch Gardens is top - great rides, lots of animals etc.
